I really struggled as to where to put this song on the CD, it’s the title song and everyone told me it should be placed in the first three songs if it was to be heard. I hope they are all wrong, because I along with others feel it’s the best song on the CD, but it’s a very intimate song. When you hear it, it makes the listener feel like they are in my chest. I just figured we should get acquainted first, and thus it is #5 and not #3.
Unlike most of my later songs this song evolved over a year or two. There is of course no doubt this song was written about my husband. It is undeniably about me and my relationship with my husband Gary. In fact the line “You always love me from the inside out” was an observation I had shared with him one really wonderful night. It was still in my head when I wrote the song the next day. What I like about this song is that it’s not about new love, I wrote it after thirty years of marriage. What is even better is that this song does not just apply to Gary and I. So often I am told, “That’s just how I feel about my husband.” How magic and fabulous is that?
lyrics
From the Inside Out
1) I find it hard to say it, but I used to believe it,
I didn’t think I was good enough, I wanted some attention,
I wanted to be pretty, but now there’s no doubt
Chorus:
‘Cause you always love me, you always love me,
You always love me from the inside out, from the inside out, from the inside out
2) It seems I’ve always loved you, how could I live without you?
You know me better that myself, you know all my secrets,
You know my tender places, but now there’s no doubt
Chorus:
‘Cause you always love me, you always love me,
You always love me from the inside out, from the inside out, from the inside out
Bridge: I need you today, don’t ever take your love away
3) We laugh, we talk, we fight, we love away the night,
I’m often thinking of you, but now I’m getting older
And it’s not always pretty, but now there’s no doubt
Chorus:
‘Cause you always love me, you always love me,
You always love me from the inside out, from the inside out, from the inside out
4) I wish that I could tell you, but I can only show you,
What you mean to me, oh yeah there’s days you falter,
Sometimes I don’t even like you, but now there’s no doubt
Chorus:
‘Cause you always love me, you always love me,
You always love me from the inside out, from the inside out, from the inside out

If you listened to the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, and every rocking song you could get your hands on from 1966 to now
and stirred it up with a Fender Strat and sang it from a woman's perspective, you would have Julie Clark Shubert "From the Inside Out." When Julie turned 50, her husband gave her a Fender Strat, the stars aligned and her natural gift appeared, the rest is kinda a blur....more
