I call this my cowboy song, about the man who is moving on. This song isn’t really about a particular experience I had. What I connect to in this song is the idea that there are people in our lives that we always expected to see again, and we later on in our life we realize we never will. And sometimes, we wish there would have been some closure, a goodbye perhaps. This song has a great grove and Ed’s solo is just terrific and Emily’s cello adds tremendous movement to the song. I added the ending onto the last chorus just before we went into the studio.
This is one of the last songs we mixed. Mike told me I needed to redo some of the vocals. I was so burned out at that point I just started crying, “I can’t do this anymore” I sobbed. Mike just stood there like a deer in the head lights. “"Go home Julie, just go home”," he told me. I went home and cried on the phone to Dave, and he and Ed went into the studio with me the next day and fixed up some harmonies and I re- recorded the harmony and the melody tracks for the chorus.
lyrics
Let Me Know
1) I know you’re not long for this town, I know you’re not long for me,
I know you’re not one for closure, but can you tell me before you leave
Chorus:
Let me know, let me know, let me know before you go, let me know
2) I know we took things on your terms, I know it’s the way it had to be,
I know you’re an all or nothing kind of guy, but nothing sounds empty to me
Chorus:
Let me know, let me know, let me know before you go, let me know
Bridge:
I’ll remember your face, the way you taste, I’ll remember your smile for a long, long while…
Chorus:
Let me know, let me know, let me know before you go, let me know
3) It seems a shame that you can’t stick around, but I can see we were never meant to be,
I can accept that, I’ll carry on, I only ask for one thing please
Chorus:
Let me know, let me know, let me know before you go, let me know ----I’ll remember your face.

If you listened to the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, and every rocking song you could get your hands on from 1966 to now
and stirred it up with a Fender Strat and sang it from a woman's perspective, you would have Julie Clark Shubert "From the Inside Out." When Julie turned 50, her husband gave her a Fender Strat, the stars aligned and her natural gift appeared, the rest is kinda a blur....more
